In a recent discussion with political commentator Benny Johnson, entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy stirred speculation by suggesting that Democrats might be contemplating replacing President Joe Biden with Michelle Obama.
Ramaswamy expressed his belief that the former first lady is likely to be the Democratic nominee, even if she is not eager to enter the race. (Related: Report: Michelle Obama preparing to replace Biden for White House run against Trump.)
Ramaswamy emphasized that the personal choices of political figures may not carry significant weight in such matters.
According to him, politicians often act as puppets, influenced directly or indirectly by the donor class. He drew parallels with other figures, like Nikki Haley, who, in his opinion, are driven by the interests of influential donors.
The entrepreneur and author argued that those controlling these political puppets would strategically select a candidate who can navigate the challenges associated with Kamala Harris while ensuring a short-term presidency to advance their agenda.
Ramaswamy concluded that, given the current circumstances, Obama could be the chosen candidate.
This speculation about a potential Obama candidacy comes amid concerns within the Democratic Party about Biden’s perceived mental decline. Some Democrats worry that Biden may not be a strong contender against potential Republican candidates, particularly former President Donald Trump, in the upcoming presidential election.
Despite Obama expressing hesitance about running for office, her popularity and influence within the Democratic Party have prompted discussions and bets being placed on her potential candidacy.
The situation remains fluid, and political dynamics can shift, but Ramaswamy’s observations add an intriguing perspective to the ongoing speculation about the Democratic Party’s plans for the upcoming election.
A recent poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports has revealed that almost half of Democratic voters, approximately 48 percent, favor finding an alternative candidate to replace Biden in the upcoming November election.
The data, gathered from a survey of 960 voters, indicates a growing dissatisfaction within the Democratic base, with 38 percent disapproving of Biden continuing as the party’s nominee.
Among potential replacements, Obama emerged as the leading choice, garnering support from 20 percent of respondents.
Despite the former first lady consistently expressing her desire to not participate in electoral politics, her name continues to surface as a preferred candidate among Democrats.
According to the pollsters, Obama remained prominent among Democrats, suggesting a preference for someone supposedly with more charisma and has the same level of influence as the sitting president.
However, it should be noted that the poll unveiled a lack of consensus among party members regarding an alternative candidate. Other preferred options include Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The survey also indicates that only 33 percent of respondents believe a late-stage change in the presidential campaign, such as replacing Biden, is likely to occur. This suggests that while a significant portion of Democratic voters may desire a change, they may not anticipate such a shift happening.
But the dynamics within the Democratic Party reflect a growing interest in alternative candidates, with Obama emerging as a notable choice among voters.
